Before I jump into Megan and Darren’s amazing wedding, let me first thank my wife, Rhonda, for working on her birthday for the second year in a row as my assistant photographer. She rocks! Now, back to the wedding. We have been looking forward to Megan and Darren’s big day for several months and knew we would be having a great time. Darren (almost as cool as Darrin) is the brother of my wife’s best friend, Page, so while I felt added pressure to do a great job, for Rhonda is was very much a family reunion! : )

Megan and Darren were married at the Lawton Heritage Community Center, which is located on the grounds of Michigan’s oldest winery and designated as a national historic site. The grounds are beautiful and the cobblestone building makes for amazing photographs. The facility does some cool things for the wedding ceremony’s that I’ll explain with the photos below. Because of Megan’s impeccable planning, we got to take advantage of best light of the day for all of our outdoor photos. No harsh, direct overhead sunlight for us!! Beautiful, diffused sidelight for the win! Megan was simply stunning and Darren actually cleans up pretty nice. Who knew?!? : ) All kidding aside, we had so much fun at this wedding and loved being treated as part of the family. How many weddings have you been to where the photographer is seated with the parents of the groom at the reception?? A definite first for me and something I could get used to…… hint, hint, future couples. : )

Showing photos a bit in reverse because this is also a favorite of mine. The emotion of that moment is beyond words. Capturing the first dance as husband and wife is one of my favorite parts of the day.

I'll admit that I teared up a bit when I saw Megan's reaction to seeing Darren for the first time that day.

In between selling a house, moving to a new city and launching a new studio venture, I was lucky enough to spend some time with Amy Carroll to assist with one of her weddings a couple of weeks ago. I have a confession to make. I have become addicted to editing photos from Smita and Ankur’s wedding. I used to be able to stop at 10 photos and call it a blog post…… but now, I’m up to 30, 40, 50 images and I am constantly craving more. I can’t get enough of this wedding. Don’t feel sorry for me!
