In between selling a house, moving to a new city and launching a new studio venture, I was lucky enough to spend some time with Amy Carroll to assist with one of her weddings a couple of weeks ago. All the details can be found at Amy’s site as well as some of her amazing photos. I am posting a few of my favorites from the day and wish Kara and Michael nothing but the best. Enjoy the photos!!

Wedding!! :: Nikki and Jake :: East Lansing, Michigan

There is nothing like being in East Lansing in the fall. I assisted the amazing Amy Carroll on a day where Michigan State University triumphed over the University of Michigan in football! As a graduate of MSU, I was thrilled but I did not have any time to celebrate. We hit the MSU campus with the wedding party shortly after the game ended and got some photos at the Botanical Gardens. I photographed my first wedding ever at the gardens so it was nice to go back. Okay, enough rambling from me. This is a very quick and short preview of what’s to come. I am heading out of state for a few days and wanted to make sure I got something posted for Nikki and Jake before I left.

I love this photo of Nikki dancing with her Dad. Nikki is an accomplished and talented photographer so I wanted to create some nice shadows and drama. This was done with a single flash with a 20 degree grid and fired remotely. I was able to pick up the expression on her Dad’s face, which, for me, tells the entire story.

Wedding!! :: Sarah and Ryan :: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Sarah and Ryan got married at one of my favorite churches to photograph, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The reception was held at San Chez, one of my favorite restaurants and the first time I have ever photographed at that location. Given this was an Amy Carroll wedding, I knew it was going to be beautiful, fun and filled with lots of great moments! Amy always has amazing clients and I love getting to work with her! You will definitely want to check out her blog post for lots of photos and all the juicy details.

I love the look on Sarah’s face as she looks down the aisle towards Ryan.

This cake was uber-cool. Not only did it look incredible, I’m not afraid to admit I had a couple of pieces. The topper was quite unique!

This is what we do when our friends from The Photobooth Company are at the reception. For the record, I absolutely hate being in front of the camera.

I love first dances. If I had to choose a favorite part of a wedding day to photograph, I would definitely choose the first dance.

Wedding! :: Michelle and Gerry :: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Michelle and Gerry are a very fun, caring and loving couple that were surrounded by friends and family from all over the country on their wedding day. I worked with the amazing Amy Carroll to photograph this wedding at the Amway Grand Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I loved that Michelle and Gerry held their ceremony in the Ford Presidential Ballroom and then moved to the Pantlind Ballroom for their reception. I have photographed numerous events in the Imperial Ballroom so seeing the other facilities at the Amway was a welcome and pleasant change of pace.

Wedding! :: Lauren and Eric :: Hudsonville, Michigan

This was a fun wedding with Amy Carroll Photography at the Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville. Lauren and Eric are high school sweethearts and actually attended their prom at the same location. I guess that was just a bit of foreshadowing for what was to come a few years later. As with any outdoor ceremony, we worry about the weather but the clouds drifted away and out came the sun!
