A New Addition to our Family! : ) Kelli Dog

With the passing of Emma, we swore we would not get another dog for a very long time. We felt we would unfairly compare a new dog to how great Emma was and that we wouldn’t be giving a new dog a chance to become a true part of our family. Well, as the weeks passed, we found ourselves with a big hole in our heart. Something was missing. The cats felt it too. Our house just isn’t a home unless we have a dog. Plain and simple.

We decided we would find an older dog that needed a permanent home. Rhonda searched the Internet and found Bellowood Rescue in Cedar Springs. They just happened to have a black lab given to them along with her 9 puppies last fall. It also turned out she a cancerous tumor that had to be removed. All the puppies were adopted out quickly (who doesn’t want a lab puppy?) but Kelli remained in the care of Bellowood. After many months it was starting to look like she might never be adopted because of her age and health condition. We knew she was the one for us and after a quick visit with her foster parents, we brought her home with us. She has been with us for two weeks and has quickly adjusted to our family. Kelli has found her permanent home.

We can not say enough great things about the Bellowood Rescue organization. They are such caring and kind people that are passionate about saving so many animals. If you are looking for a dog, PLEASE consider adopting a dog from a shelter like Bellowood.

Meet Kelli! : )

Rhonda caught Kelli and I hanging out on a park bench at Reeds Lake. Kelli made me laugh when she hopped on the bench to sit with me.

Kelli is staring intently at a rubber ball. Would she retrieve it? We are about to find out.

Yes! Kelli not only retrieved the ball but she can also catch it in mid-air. No photos of that yet but she absolutely loves to play fetch.

Susanna Karbowski - Darrin, these are fabulous photos of your new pet. I will definitely keep you in mind for photo work in the future, possibly family with dogs! And what a great testimonial for Bellowood, too. I have known Kim and the gang for several years now, adopted both my current dogs thru her, and have always been truly impressed by her dedication and honest care for the animals she helps to re-home. The photo of you and Kelli on the bench is simply a perfect statement of how closely rescue dogs bond with their new people. Pictures do speak louder than words.

Linda - Darrin, thank you so much for the wonderful article about Kelli. She was a favorite of Kim’s and as one of her dogs just passed away, this story of yours was very timely to help Kim’s soul again find some happiness. Your photos are excellent. And I will keep you in mind when the need arises.

Julie Freiberg - I am so happy to hear that Kelli has found a home. She melted my heart the first time I met her. Kim at Bellowwood is my sister in law & I always have the option to play with all sorts of dogs. She just seemed like such a special girl. We have been looking for the “right” dog to bring into our lives but have yet to find that special one. We thought long and hard about Kelli, but with her previous condition and us having two small children that would just be crushed should she have problems again in the near future, we decided to wait & hope that someone special would come along & give Kelli the home she deserves. It sounds like our prayers have been answered. Thank you so much for being there for her & providing her the home she deserves. The picture of you on the bench with her is just priceless. Enjoy her & thank you for having such a big heart.

Kristin Glover - Yes, BELLOWOOD is the best! I fostered many a dog for them and adopted my dog, Baron, from them 6 years ago. They work very hard, and do a lot for many dogs with donations and help volunteered by caring people! Adopt or foster a dog today they are so appreciative!
