Weekend at the Cottage

It was nice to get out of Grand Rapids for a few days and head up to Traverse City. Even though I always take my camera to the cottage on these weekend jaunts, I rarely take any photos. I only managed to shoot a handful of images over the holiday weekend so what you see here is about the sum of my photographic accomplishments.

Just in case you were wondering, had I taken my camera out of the bag you would be seeing the Blue Angels practicing over Spider Lake for their Cherry Fest show, a beautiful sunset on Torch Lake from our friends place in Alden and a spectacular sunrise on Spider Lake. It is rare that I see a sunrise on the weekend but we wanted to leave early today to beat the traffic. We were on the road by 7AM this morning!

Enjoy the photos…..

We saw fighter jets practicing about 2 hours south of TC. Just two jets doing loops, spirals, skywriting, and dives. It was awfully impressive. We assumed it was part of something going on at Rothbury. Maybe they were practicing for the Cherry Fest, too. The hundreds of people on the beach and all the boaters all over the lake all stopped in awed wonder. Strangely, it felt incredibly patriotic. Or maybe that’s exactly how yer supposed to feel when you see your country’s unparalleled military excellence, machinery, and precision. America! F’ yeah!

We never made it to Elk Rapids for dinner on Thursday. We ended up at the old standby, Poppycock’s, in TC. Bought some shoes at Golden’s and called it a day.

My second-shooter Angie was up there taking pictures of the Blue Angels…I’ll have to share her link with you once she gets her pics up on her blog.
